We just received a request for pricing on a base station radio and six remotes. Traditionally, we would have quoted the VHF radio requested plus a half dozen tone remotes such as those offered by CPI, Gai-Tronics, IDA, or Midian. Typically, we would figure around three hundred dollars each plus a near equal amount for installation. Now, we have alternatives.
One of the ICOM alternatives is to use an X-Band 50 repeater (under $2,000) using the VHF radio as the "base" and the UHF radio for UHF control used in conjunction with a good quality portable radio priced in the $200 range. Another option is the use of the ICOM RC-FS10 remote communicator system which allows up to eight PC's to communicate over the radio system.
